What is Vibrational Sound Therapy:
Sound therapy is a form of sensory therapy; it utilizes vibration, the principle of resonance, and entrainment by applying certain frequencies that affect the body's nervous system. A sound therapy session aims to work with the frequency of the particular part of the body by breaking up stuck energy or blockages in the physical form and restoring its balance for health.
Though it is gaining popularity and broadening into common practices, beyond the esoteric and spiritual worlds, Sound Healing is not a new practice. In fact, it has been an important part of many cultures for thousands of years. While each culture used, and continues to use, sound in different ways, they all utilized its healing properties for the same end, to create balance and harmony in the physical, mental and emotional bodies.
How Sound Therapy Works on a Physiological Level:
The human body is an excellent conductor of sound; in water and watery solids such as the human body, sound travels over four times faster, in the form of phonons, or sonic shear waves. Sound is perceived through our ear, skin, and bones and actually massages the entire body on a cellular level. This navigation and development through hearing is made possible via the Vagus Nerve, because it wanders through the thoracic and abdominal cavities. It regulates the functions of many major organs, among them the lungs, heart, stomach, kidneys and the liver. Originating in the brain, it attaches to the inner and outer eardrum, and ends all the way down by the perineum. As a result, sound is not just vibrating the eardrum, but with the help of the Vagus Nerve, it resonates and vibrates, or "massages" the entire being on a cellular level. So when you "feel it deep down inside" there's more validity to that statement than your realize.
A recent study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine found that hour-long sound meditations help to reduce tension, anger, anxiety, and increase spiritual well-being in adults. Sound Meditation works through entrainment, a process by which our brain waves synchronise with the sound wave patterns emanating from the instrument being played. Simply put, it drops us into deeper, slower brainwave patterns, providing a vehicle for us to access our deeper brainwave states, promoting deep meditation and eliciting the body’s natural healing capacity. In 2008 the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine published a review of 20 studies of brain-wave entrainment and patient outcomes. The conclusion was that brain-wave entrainment is an effective healing frequency tool to use on cognitive functioning deficits, stress, pain, headaches, and various syndromes.
Nitric Oxide in skin and blood flow increases due to vibration, so sound is a primary way of producing this essential molecule in our bodies and this relationship is central to the therapeutic benefits of sound therapy. This mighty molecule required by our cells for overall health is a vasodilator; Nitric Oxide signals surrounding smooth muscle to relax, thus resulting in vasodilation and increasing blood flow, which correlate directly with the reported benefits of sound therapy sessions to invoke relaxation, reduce symptoms, and alleviate stress.
We resonate with sound... If you examine our cellular makeup under a microscope, every single particle of our physical body is vibrating at varying frequencies—the rate at which each object vibrates is its resonant frequency. The discovery that cells create sound was made by Professor James Gimzewski of UCLA, in 2002. Using an Atomic Force Microscope he and his colleague, Dr. Andrew Pelling, were able to listen to the sounds of cells for the first time. Professor Gimzewski named their new approach to cell biology, “sonocytology,” combining “sono” (sound) with ”cytology’” (the study of cells). Think of the body like a symphony orchestra with all parts (muscles, bones, organs, cells, etc.) having their own frequencies which, when healthy, are all in perfect rhythm and harmony. When the body systems become compromised due to physical or emotional causes and blockages, certain frequencies are affected and literally become out of tune. Just as in an orchestra, when one instrument is out of tune, nothing sounds right! Everything is affected. With sound therapy, utilizing various instruments, tones, and frequencies, the body is gently brought back and restored to its natural state of harmony.
External vibrations can influence body function and can assist in restoring health and wellbeing by relaxing muscles, increasing blood circulation, relieving pain, and easing anxieties. In terms of sound baths, researchers have found that sound waves affect the human nervous system and decrease blood pressure more than traditional meditation. Because the relaxation response is triggered so quickly, this modality offers the opportunity to go very deep, very fast and provides an opportunity to clear issues on many levels—physical, mental, and emotional. The only work the client really has to do is get clear about their intentions, relax and tune in. After that, the natural processes of vibration, entrainment, and resonant frequency allow stuck energies and traumas to be released and the body reorganizes itself accordingly.
Post Sound Meditation Feels
All Facts Aside (but aren't those physiological correlations astounding?!)
A guided sound session is a lovely moment to surrender and voyage wherever the sound takes you. I've had personal experiences that felt like a trip; I received powerful downloads and imagery. I've fallen fast asleep (like deep Delta style). I've floated between a state of dream and awake and even once shared some stellar visions and insights with a dear soul sister who was journeying by my side. I've arisen following a bath deeply grounded and weighted in my body to the earth, and in another instance so light in my body and elevated in spirit ~physically and mentally high on life, like I was floating. The experience is never the same twice. Some don't report any spine tingling takeaways, in contrary they may be seemingly unphased or unnerved by the experience entirely. We receive and store sound in our own unique vibratory experience. No matter the initial take away, the heal is real.
"Frequency + Intention = Healing"
Whether the basis of intentional healing is at the forefront of your sound session or just to simply unwind and relax in a deeply meditative state, the vibratory immersion of the sounds reverberating through your auric field and body on a cellular level has been accredited to inducing relaxation, releasing nitric oxide, improving mobility, reducing muscle pain and stiffness, increasing blood circulation, lowering blood pressure, reducing inflammation, boosting the immune response and elevating mood. Many people describe feeling a natural “high” after having a session.
As a Certified Sound Therapist, I aim to rebalance the body's frequencies in order to bring it back to its natural state of balance through an array of specific therapeutic pure tones, harmonic intervals, and overlays, creating resonance through varied musical instruments and tuning forks.

Crystal singing bowls are instruments used for sound healing. They are typically made of 99.9 percent crushed crystal quartz that is heated under high temperatures and formed into different bowl shapes, and thicknesses to attune to certain tones correlated to the individual chakras or planetary frequencies.
A Tibetan singing bowl is a type of bell that vibrates and produces a rich, deep, hypnotic tone when played. Also known as singing bowls or Himalayan bowls, Tibetan singing bowls are said to promote relaxation and offer powerful healing properties. Buddhist monks have long used Tibetan singing bowls in meditation practice for over 3000 yrs.
Tibetan Hand Cymbals are two hand cast cymbals joined together by a leather chain that are struck together producing clear & high pitched tone. Tingshas are used in meditation, clearing energy spaces, and for music and sound healing.
Made in the Pyrenean Mountains of France, each Koshi chime is handcrafted of Bamboo with precise tuning to play clear tones and rich overtones with a long spherical resonance. They come in 4 different melodies, inspired by the 4 elements, Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis. Each has its own magic timbre and can be played harmoniously with all the others. They have a very ethereal effect.
As early as 16000 bc Gongs were being used as healing instruments. Gongs work to break up stagnant energy and are very clearing for the chakras. The deeply penetrating reverberations of the gong help the brain reach deep relaxation~ specifically the delta and theta brain waves states. With the echo of the gong, powerful vibrations are released and absorbed by the body
A tuning fork is an acoustic resonator that emits a pure musical tone. The tuning fork vibrates at a precise set frequency and after being struck. They resonate the bones, stimulate the nerves, release tension from the body, balance the body's vital energy centers and attune the chakras to promote emotional/physical harmony, in a similar way to acupuncture, reiki and eft.
The Meinl Wave drum Is a two headed percussion instrument with two discrete timbres that invoke wholly different moods. This drum creates soothing sound, reminiscent in its way of a gentle, steady surf with crashing waves. This rhythmic flow is highly mediative.
This Svaram 9 Bar Swinging Chime is an innovative instrument based on harmonic, just intonation tunings on C 256 hz. The chimes can be swung gently, rotated, traversed, looped, swayed around and over the body creating a spherical sound for a layered harmonizing effect. Various notes combine for a very soothing and healing effect.
Crystal singing pyramids are made of Quartz crystal and due to their shape they resonate on 4 different tones instead of one. Given their pyramid shape the clarity and reverberations are quite resounding and ethereal. There is ancient sacred geometry tied to the gifts of this musical instrument.
